Software Release Note

Applies to:
PDAS-II/HDR software version "HDRE938" and later
All PDAS-III/HDR software versions as of this date.

WHAT? Users should be aware of important changes in these versions of software with respect to enabling/disabling GOES transmissions. As before, the user must “Enable Transmitter” in order for transmissions to take place. However, unlike previous versions, once "enabled" to transmit the system will remain so EVEN FOLLOWING A POWER RESET. Therefore, if the logger is configured and enabled to transmit (“Initialization” submenu), the system can be powered-down, shipped, and powered-up again where transmissions will recommence automatically. Note that it will only recommence once the transmitter has obtained a GPS fix.

The only way to DISABLE GOES transmissions is either to toggle to the ‘Disabled’ state using "3 Goes Data Collection Disabled", or by reconfiguring the transmitter from the initialization submenu.

WHY? The ability to automatically recommence transmissions following a power reset is a desirable feature.

CAUTION: The user should be aware that accidental transmission attempts are possible if the unit is powered up with it configured to transmit. (This was not possible with the older units).

REMINDER: Accidental transmission without a load mounted to the RF port can damage the transmitter.
